How the EV home charger grant works in Ireland

SEAI’s EV Home Charger Grant can contribute up to €300 towards an eligible smart charger installation. You must apply and receive a Letter of Offer before work starts, use a Safe Electric registered contractor and meet the property and charger conditions.

Check the site first

The charger normally connects to the home and serves associated off-street parking. Assigned spaces in a multi-unit development need additional details. A charging arm that crosses or reaches public space can require evidence from the local planning authority.

Ask an electrician to assess the supply, fuse board, cable route, earthing and load management. The grant is a contribution, not confirmation that every home can accept the same installation.

Apply before installation

  1. Check the live scheme rules and SEAI smart-charger register.
  2. Apply using the address, Eircode and Meter Point Reference Number.
  3. Wait for the Letter of Offer.
  4. Use a Safe Electric registered contractor and complete within the offer period.
  5. Submit the required forms, invoice, photographs and electrical records.

Keep the evidence

SEAI lists Certificate Number 3 and a test record sheet among the claim documents. The electrician must also send the certificate to Safe Electric. Keep copies with the charger warranty and commissioning details.

Do not start early: SEAI states that work completed before the grant offer is issued is ineligible.
